The Perfect Lipless Crankbait?

Are you looking for the perfect lipless crankbait?  The one with the most action, loudest knock and just plain gets bit? Well check out the Fat Vibe lipless crankbait by Savage Gear.  These baits were designed to fish the entire water column, from top to bottom.

The Savage Gear Fat Vibe has a unique body design.  They are called the Fat Vibe, because they are just that, FAT. The body is slim at the top and has a fat belly design that creates a swimming action that is unique to lipless crankbaits.  When you cast or drop this bait, you get a unique side to side swimming action on the drop rather than a spiraling action.  This side to side swim entices quite a few bites before you even make your first crank.  For some reason Smallmouth Bass really like this bait.

The unique body shape doesn’t stop at the belly, it also has more of a curved back and lower body section than most lipless crankbaits on the market.  I think this also helps to enhance that swim as the bait is traveling to the depths.  On a straight retrieve, this bait creates a very nice side flash as well as a hard knocking sound that attracts fish from great distance.

I found that the casting distance on these baits is right up to par, or better than most lipless crankbaits in my box.  I’m not sure if there is a weight transfer type system, or if it just the body shape, but you can really wing these baits.  We had the opportunity to fish these down in Mexico, and the bass went crazy!  Here is a short clip from our expedition down to Lake El Salto.  The week we were down, it seemed to be the shiny colors the bass were after.  Blue Chrome and Sexy Shad were tops for us that week.

And for our northern friends, these baits have been wicked through the ice.  As ice season winds down, I keep hearing reports of big walleye, smallmouth and perch jumping all over the Fat Vibe.  Not a lot of fisherman drop a lipless crankbait through the ice, but those that do, have some incredible results.
