Throwing the Alabama Rig

As many of you know, I love to throw the A-Rig in saltwater. I throw them for Spotted Bay Bass, Calico Bass and deep for Sand Bass. I’ve been doing this for quite some time and love it. It is SO effective and a great way to present a couple of baits in front of fish and drive them crazy.

I get people asking me quite often on what brand of Alabama Rigs I like to throw. When it comes to the Alabama Rig, I generally prefer something with a blade. I find the bladed rigs give a bit more flash and seem to be more effective. The brand I have been throwing lately are the Lixada 5-Arm Alabama Rigs. These are great little rigs that have a great price. In fact, they come in at about $4 each as you get a pack of four for $16. Crazy!

The Rigs

The Lixada 5-Arm Alabama Rigs are pretty nice for a $4 item. Each package contains 4 baits and come in at $16 for a 4-pack. When you open the package there are 4 different color heads in the pack. The pack I recently received contained a Sexy Shad, Firetiger, Shad of some sort and Purple/White.

As I mentioned, I like to throw bladed rigs. These rigs have 4 blades attached and a regular center arm.

Each of the rigs has a sturdy brass hook as well as brass beads keeping the blade in place. There is a small crimp below the blade that keeps it from sliding it all the way down to the bottom.

These seem to be well built. I have been fishing this brand for a couple of seasons now. For those that know, saltwater bass can be pretty aggressive and tear through gear pretty regularly. So far, I haven’t had any broken rigs. I’m sure if I get a monster they may break, but nothing as of yet. Sure a few bent arms, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Unboxing

Here is a short video of me unboxing a recent purchase of the Lixada 5-Arm Alabama Rigs.

My Set Up

When fishing these rigs, you need the right gear. Since I am primarily fishing salt water, I have been fishing the Okuma Komodo 200 and 350 size baitcast reels. Both of these reels are phenomenal for what I am doing with great capacity and exceptional stopping power getting 20lbs on the 200 and over 30 on the 350.

I like to match up my Komodo with the EVXb 711H or the SCT Inshore rod.

Fishing the Lixada 5-Arm Alabama Rig

Here is a short video that I put together down in Mission Bay in San Diego on fishing the rigs. These put out a lot of flash and are fun to throw. This video is a How To on throwing the rigs from the kayak.

And here is a great episode of Stoked On Fishing where we got into a WIDE OPEN spottie bite down in Mission Bay. This episode will air in Aug of 2019, but here is a sneak peek for my followers. This was a great day with a wide open bite and I fish this particular rig exclusively.

The Wrap

I like to throw the Alabama Rig as it is SO effective. They are so much fun, especially when you get a double or triple hook up.

I appreciate you all checking in and reading about this rig. Do me a favor and subscribe to Davey’s World. On my page I have lots of great fishing trips, videos and gear reviews.
