New TCS Rods by Okuma- First Look
Okuma has another hit on its hand with the newly updated TCS – Tournament Concept Series rods for 2020.
The TCS series of rods has been in the lineup for a solid 5+ years and has become a favorite of many an angler. With the full lineup of technique specific rods, this series has been in the hands of many a great angler including multiple Forrest Wood Cup Champions.
This newly updated version strengthens the series and brings an even better rod to the anglers.
The New TCS Rods
The newly updated TCS Rods by Okuma are well thought out, redesigned rods designed for the tournament level angler at a price that every angler can afford.
The original Tournament Concept Series rods were designed by Forrest Wood Cup champion Scott Martin and were a fantastic rod. These rods top those!
The Tournament Concept Series Rods consist of 13 total models of which 4 are spinning and 9 are casting models. These lightweight yet durable rods come in at just about 4 to 5 ounces in weight.
The Blank
Each rod in the TCS lineup starts with a 30-ton carbon blank construction. They are very responsive and durable with great backbone for solid hook sets.
The Butt Section
These rods are stout and well built. The butt section is comprised of a split butt design, lightening the weight and featuring a contoured EVA and compressed cork fore and rear grip for the ultimate in comfort.
The Reel Seat
The reel seat on the TCS “a” rods features a customized C-40X, long strain graphite carbon fiber skeleton reel seat to really lighten the rod, and give it a cool custom look. This skeleton design features a screw down foregrip eliminating contact with the reel seat threads for all day comfort.
The Guides
Okuma’s new “a” series rods have a top notch guide system. They are built with Fuji K-Concept guide frames to help reduce wind notes, as well as maximum compatibility for braided lines.
The Fuji Faz-Light guide inserts offer premium performance and abrasion resistance.

TCS Conclusion
Overall, this is a very complete and solid series of rods. The newly updated rods are well built and very light. Another great aspect of the rods is that they start at only $144.99 and feature a lifetime warranty. Solid!
There is definitely a place in my arsenal for these rods and I am excited to get my hands on them. The previous version was very good, but this new “a” version has been bumped up to excellent.
