Pirates Cove Resort & Marina- Stuart Florida

The sun slowly rises over the horizon as you sit on your patio sipping a delicious cup of coffee.  You watch a variety of boats pull in and out of the dock out in front of your room as you listen to the hum of the motors.  You find yourself with a variety of options for morning festivities as you walk down to the main hub of Pirates Cove Resort in Stuart Florida.

Stuart is located along south eastern coast of Florida just a couple hours north of Miami and a short drive north of West Palm Beach.  Pirates Cove Resort is tucked in to the harbor along Indian River.  It is geared toward fisherman but has a great family feel as well with a nice pool area for the little ones, and heck, some of us big ones as well.

The resort has somewhat of a plantation feel with the wood accents and shutters.

As you walk around the resort, you will find easy signage directing you to whatever you happen to be looking for.

As you can see, lots of options are available.  I mentioned the pool, but they also have a Tiki Bar, Marina, Bait & Tackle shop, as well as some restaurant options.

The pool is a good size.  Nothing fancy, but you do overlook the marina.

The rooms themselves were very nice and very spacious.  I was up on the 4th floor overlooking the pool and marina which was nice.  I’d sit out each morning and watch the sunrise.  Well, at least if I wasn’t out on a boat or something.  Here is a look at my room which was considered a standard room.

My room had a nice little patio where I had panoramic view of the marina and pool.  Here is my view overlooking the marina.

Oh, and did I mention the fishing?  Several fishing charter operations operate out of the marina at Pirates Cove.  This would have been very nice, but we happened to be there for a media event, and all of the boats were provided.  There were some incredible boats in and around the marina.

Here is a look at our standard morning as we would walk out to the docks and get loaded up for our days fishing.

You have some really incredible fishing options right off of the dock area with Snook, Tarpon, Redfish, and other inshore fish right in front.  If you make a little run out of the marina you have a shot at Goliath Grouper, Snapper, Barracuda and all of the sharks you could ever want.  Running a bit further, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish and Amberjack are all available.  And if the salt isn’t your thing, you are pretty close to Lake Ida which is known for some great Largemouth Bass and Peacock Bass fishing.

Day one I had the opportunity to make the run to Lake Ida which is about an hour south of Pirates Cove.  We definitely got into the bass.  We ended up with two dozen Peacock Bass and about 10 Largemouth.  Nothing big, but fun, fun, fun! Especially on the light gear.  I was fishing the Okuma EVXb rods matched up with the new Epixor XT Spinning Reel and soon to be released Helios SX baitcast Reels.  Really fun!

Day two and three I found myself offshore. Consequently, it was a little slow out there as we found out the gulf stream had altered directions and cooled off the bite a bit.  That is ok as it was absolutely gorgeous out there.

I did get the opportunity to fish with Capt James Marko of GoliathFishing.com and got the opportunity to help him get his first Mahi on the boat.  We pulled on big bottom dwellers than made the run offshore a bit pulling around live bait.  It was really exciting to see Marko get that fish.  It wasn’t huge, but it was a bucket list fish for him for sure.

Meanwhile, Jim put the hurt on this Dolphin Fish using the Okuma Azores 40 spinning reel.

If you happen to be an avid boater/fisherman and want to bring your own boat, there is ample parking in the lot out front.

Private boaters have a couple of launch options around the resort.  Easy access to Indian River makes this a fishing destination for sure.  Finally, the marina has an easily accessible fuel dock and ample parking as well.

And once you come back with that fish of a lifetime, there is a nice fish cleaning station right on the dock for you to use as well.  Keep the Cuda Tools knife sharp, and you are ready for some fresh fillets.

Overall Pirates Cove Resort & Marina was a great spot.  There are plenty of restaurants close by as well as grocery stores should you decide to cook on your own.
