Rich Farm- Life Changing Ice Cream in Orange County
About a year ago, Karie and I were craving some good ice cream. We did a few searches and came up with the standard chain parlors. A friend had mentioned that they found a little place in Placentia, CA which is not too far from home. They told us about a little place called Rich Farm Ice Cream. Holy Cow! (pun intended) This place was life changing.
I don’t know what it is exactly about Rich Farm, but I can tell you that this is the smoothest, creamiest ice cream that I have ever eaten. The place is truly amazing! I always thought happy cows came from California, but apparently there are a few happy cows in Connecticut where Rich Farm is headquartered. There are pictures of the actual farm all over the shop which is pretty neat to see.
The first thing you do when entering Rich Farm is to check out the various flavors that are offered. They have a standard set, but also offer some daily or weekly specials. As you can see, June is dairy month, so the special flavors revolved around “cow” flavors. Purple Cow, Jersey Cow and Nutty Bar Crunch. The Purple Cow sounded interesting. It was Raspberry flavor with chocolate chunks. Probably pretty yummy.
We went in on a Saturday evening right after dinner. It was a warm day with lots of folks out looking for a treat. Every time we have been there is always a line with maybe a dozen or so people in it. Today was no different.
As you are waiting in line, it is always fun to check out the artwork from the local children. Happy cows come in many colors.
The line goes quick, and the staff is always really friendly and meet you with a smile. From the looks of it, they hire a core base of local high school aged kids, and they always seem very happy to be there.
When you finally make it to the counter, the fun really begins. You are able to get as many flavor samples as you’d like. We generally like to try something a little out of the ordinary.
Once you pick your chosen flavor, all you have to do is pick your size, and they are ready to go.
The portions are very generous. Karie always gets a kiddie and has plenty for the next day. I always get a small, and it also enough for the next day. Here is a little tip, the small size is A LOT! You get about two scoops of your base flavor, then a kicker scoop on top. My all time Rich Farm favorite is the Peanut Butter Chocolate Swirl with the Banana Marshmallow kicker. The below picture is of a small sized bowl. Pretty incredible.
Of course, being an ice cream parlor, Rich Farm has some of the standard items available such as home made waffle cones, and some soft serve options as well.
The prices at Rich Farm Ice Cream are very reasonable coming in at about $5.00 for a small which isn’t too bad at all. Here is a shot of all of their pricing and options up on the board.
Of course if you aren’t feeling to adventurous, they have most of the delicious standard flavors that we all love. Our friends got the Chocolate with Chocolate Chunk and a kicker of Rocky Road.
Not sure if I mentioned it, but Karie and I absolutely love this place! If you should happen to be craving some delicious ice cream and are in the north Orange County area, be sure to look up Rich Farm Ice Cream in Placentia. It is definitely worth the stop.
