Battle Of The Bays Round 2- Event 1 Mission Bay Pre-Fishing

The Battle Of The Bays Round 2- Event 1, Mission Bay event takes place this Saturday.  This is a bay bass event targeting barred sand, spotted sand, and calico bass.  The event is put on by Coastal Conservation Association of California and well attended and supported by the fishing community.

Last years event was a blast with over 50 anglers joining the tournament.  Everyone fished from either a Kayak, Float Tube, or Stand Up Paddle Board. Conditions were tough last year as the wind really started to blow pretty early in the day.  I was lucky enough to nab a nice Spotted Bay Bass that came in at 15.25 inches which was good enough for 1st place in the division and a nice prize package.

This year I have been doing a little pre-fishing, and its been pretty good.  I can’t exactly tell you have I’ve been coaxing the bass to bite, but they have, and that’s all that really matters.

The fish have to be a minimum of 14 inches to qualify for the event.  Your top three fish will count for your overall length total.  Using the iAngler Tournament app, makes tracking and submitting your fish really easy.

It keeps track of your total length of your submitted fish, and you really don’t have to do anything else.  The App tracks, length, where you caught, how it was hooked, and how it was released.  This is a catch and release event, so every time we can get a bass into the water safely, the better.

Heading into this event, I have a game plan.  I have been fishing the bay for over 25 years, and can sense a pretty good pattern when it comes to bay bass.  If my game day turns out anything like my pre-fishing, it should be a good day. The weather is supposed to be absolutely perfect! I just need 3 solid fish.

Hopefully I can check in with some good news after the weekend.

Happy Fishing!
