Okuma Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rod – First Look
Okuma Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rod
I finally had the opportunity to get my hands on one of the new Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rods. These rods are pretty darn cool. They are all 4pc rods that are built like a full 1pc rod and packed into a convenient travel case.
Okuma has a wide variety of travel rods in their lineup. SST, Citrix, Voyager, Nomad and Nomad Xpress. These cover everything from long casting surf, big fish boat rods as well as compact, light action trout rods and combos to fly rods. The rod I am looking at today is the Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rod.
The Rod
As I mentioned previously, these are all 4pc rods built to feel like a true 1pc swimbait rod. The Nomad Xpress features European Spigot Ferrules for the connections. Each of the ferrules are about 3.5″ in length with an insertion of about 3″. This is plenty of connection between each section. There are two models in the swimbait travel lineup in a 7’11” Heavy action and a 7’11” Extra Heavy action and feature durable and responsive 24-ton carbon rod blanks.
For components, the rods utilize deep press guide frames with aluminum oxide inserts for use with braided lines. There is a comfortable trigger grip with a screw down handle that is sandwiched between a stylish cork split grip design.
The Travel Bag
The Nomad Xpress Rods are packed into a durable canvas travel bag with shoulder strap and handle. The bag is designed into two compartments for two sections of rods in each. Rods are held down by Velcro straps.
The dimensions of the filled bag will fit nicely into most suitcases. Coming in at 27.5″ long x 4″ wide x 2.5″ deep, there is plenty of room for a second rod, yet compact enough to slide behind the seat of your car.
The Unboxing
Here is a little video I did of the actual unboxing of the Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rods.
If you have some upcoming travel planned, be sure to take a look at the Okuma selection of travel rods. There is a really good chance that they’ll have a travel rod to fit your needs.
