Tesoro 5S Star Drag Reel

The Tesoro family of reels have been a force on the saltwater scene for a couple of seasons now.  This year, Okuma added to the family with the introduction of the new Tesoro 5S.  This is the most compact star drag reel in the family.

A Look Inside

Coming in at only about a pound, the 5S is a compact star drag that is absolutely built for the fight.  The 6061-T6 machined aluminum frame, side plate and spool keep this reel rigid and strong.  Internally, the Tesoro 5S has all stainless steel components to fight against any corrosion issues.  The stainless steel helical cut gearing that fills up the oversized gear box keep the reel smooth and flawless.  There is also a mechanical stabilization plate that keeps the spool stable and aligned at three key points keeping the spool running smooth.

Pure Stopping Power

The reel packs over 20 pounds of drag out of the multi-disc carbonite drag system lined with Cal’s Universal Reel Grease.  These drags run smooth.  There is nothing like watching line peel off a silent reel that runs smooth.

Free Spool

The Tesoro 5S utilizes 5 total corrosion resistant bearings that are bathed in TSI-301 oil for about the ultimate in free spool.  Weather you are casting a Tady surface iron all day, or gently finessing a light anchovy, the free spool is going to make you smile.  Also, the free spool makes the Tesoro perfect for dropping down an erratic style jig like the Shimano Flatfall or the Savage Gear Squish Jig.

Speaking of spool, this little reel has some capacity too!  You can pack on about 400 yds of 50lb Tuf-Line XP braided line.
