Okuma Cavalla Rods

The new Okuma Cavalla Rods are a all encompassing family of offshore boat rods by Okuma. From the new 6’XH Jigging Rod to more all around 7′ rods, this series of rods is very comfortable and light weight, yet durable.

The current lineup of rods has 7 total models covering both Spinning and Casting making the Cavalla Rods a general series of rods that can be used for multiple purposes.

I am choosing the Okuma Cavalla Rods as -Davey’s Pick of the Week because I recently had the opportunity to get out and fish these on some of the big yellowfin tuna that came through and they handled these fish exceptionally. Matched up with the Cavalla Lever Drag reels as well as Tesoro Star Drag Reels, the yellowfin up to 50 pounds had no chance.

The Rods

According to Okuma’s website, the new Cavalla Boat Rods are designed to be fished by every angler. Well built, attractive and competitively priced, these rods are built on a responsive and durable 24-ton carbon blank. They also feature Okuma’s UFR-Ultimate Flex Reinforcement tip technology.

The components of the Cavalla Rods are top notch. With SeaGuide deep pressed, 316-grade stainless steel guide frames and zirconium inserts, they offer compatibility for both braided and monofilament lines. Premium Fuji DPS reel seats with stainless steel hoods keep your reel firmly mounted to the rod for a great sense of security. The comfortable and durable EVA foam fore and rear grips fit in your hand nicely for all day casting and dropping back. All models feature a precision placed stainless steel hook keeper.
