How To: Reel Service. Stuck At Home and Not Fishing?
All In The Same Boat
Our current reality is a crazy one. As this Covid-19 pandemic sweeps across the nation, our lives have all changed. As an avid fisherman, I’m struggling! Can’t leave the house, stay at home, quarantined. Call it what you want, we are all in the same boat. Might be time for a little reel service.
What to do now?
If you are like me, you made the promise to get out and clean the garage. Maybe not exactly that, but something similar anyway.
Once you have gone through your gear and decided that you really NEED everything else that you have, what do you do now? You’ve cleaned, you’ve sorted and glanced around the garage a few times now.
There really is plenty to do around the house, but when your life revolves around fishing, it’s tough.
One thing I suggest is getting out and lubing and servicing your reels. You don’t have to be a service professional to do this either. A couple of basic items and you are ready to go.
Reel Service and Lube
After you have spooled up your reels with fresh line, or perhaps even before, you might want to take the time to inspect and lube up your reel. I love this Lucas Oil Product.
In this short video, I take you through the steps of some basic lube and service of my Komodo SS baitcast reels. These are bad-ass tools in my arsenal and I want to keep them up and running.
Now What?
Ok, now that you have lubed and serviced your reels, what do you do now? Really, I guess that all depends on how long we are keeping each other safe and practicing this “social distancing.” I’m doing my part, and I hope you are all too.
This has been rough as there have been yellow popping up at the island and white sea bass creeping in along the coast. Maybe the silver lining is that I have been chatting more with all of my neighbors, and getting to know them. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Be Safe and See You On The Water
I hope we all make it through this with minimal damage. Be safe out there and we’ll see you all on the water.
