Wide Open Bass in January? Epic Saltwater Bass Bite
We had a pretty incredible bass bite in Long Beach Harbor in Southern California right at the beginning of January. Pretty odd for this time of year, especially with 55 degree water. There is nothing like kayak fishing in the middle of winter. I was out with John Bretza from Okuma chasing Sand Bass, Spotted Bay Bass and Calico Bass. We also added a few Halibut into the mix as well. I was out on my Old Town Bigwater PDL 132 and John was on his Hobie Pro Angler. Battle Of The Bays Round 2- Event 1 Mission Bay Pre-Fishing
The Battle Of The Bays Round 2- Event 1, Mission Bay event takes place this Saturday. This is a bay bass event targeting barred sand, spotted sand, and calico bass. The event is put on by Coastal Conservation Association of California and well attended and supported by the fishing community. Last years event was a blast with over 50 anglers joining the tournament. Everyone fished from either a Kayak, Float Tube, or Stand Up Paddle Board.
