Lobster Season Opener 2019

The 2019 Lobster Season started out with a bang. Trying a new top secret spot just north of San Diego and south of Point Conception, we found em’!

The Invite

A week or so before the opener was to kick off I received an invite from one of my wives cousins. Always a great phone call to get leading into the season. I’ve wanted to try his area for a bit as it is north of mine and I’ve heard nothing but good things. And glad I did!

The Run Through

Here is a quick video I put together on our evening. In short, we ended up with three full limits of lobster by 8:30pm. Great night for sure. We put the Promar Ambush Nets to some hard use this night.

A Few Shots

Here are a couple of shots from the night. Lobster and Crab were on tap.

The Lobster Gear

We had our full set of Promar Ambush Nets out and in use. These are conical style lobster nets. You can’t use traps when fishing for lobster, as they have to have the opportunity to escape. These Promar Ambush nets are light years above the standard flat nets in my opinion.

We also used a standard 3/8″ rope and fished from 28′ on out to a wreck in over 80′ of water. The deeper spot is where all of the crab came out of.

Cleaning Your Catch

I also put together a quick video on how to clean and devein your freshly caught lobster.

Cooked Lobster

Not a lot to say right here other than…YUM! Currently my favorite way to cook these guys is right on the grill.

Conclusion

Now all you really need to do is head out and load up on some butter. After a great opener I am itching to get back out and hit it again.
