Rich Farm- Life Changing Ice Cream in Orange County
About a year ago, Karie and I were craving some good ice cream. We did a few searches and came up with the standard chain parlors. A friend had mentioned that they found a little place in Placentia, CA which is not too far from home. They told us about a little place called Rich Farm Ice Cream. Holy Cow! (pun intended) This place was life changing. I don’t know what it is exactly about Rich Farm, but I can tell you that this is the smoothest, creamiest ice cream that I have ever eaten. The place is truly amazing! I always thought happy cows came from California, but apparently…

Jigging for Monster Cutthroat Trout on Pyramid Lake
I recently had the opportunity to get up to Pyramid Lake in Nevada to chase giant Cutthroat Trout. I got the call from Denis Isbister of the television show Wild Fish Wild Places that the fishing is good and we need to get up there right now. Giant cutthroat trout? You don’t really have to tell me twice. We booked our flights and were on the way! Pyramid Lake is just east of Reno and an easy 45 minute drive right to the lake. We landed in Reno, grabbed our rental car, made the quick drive and were on the water by 2pm. As you drive east and finally make…

Sister Sicily Pizza & Pasta
As most residents of Yorba Linda know, finding a great little restaurant is not the easiest of tasks. My wife and I were craving some good pasta and were on the hunt. We were doing some Yelp searches and happened upon Sister Sicily Pizza & Pasta on Yorba Linda Boulevard in Yorba Linda California. What a great little find this turned out to be. Sister Sicily Pizza & Pasta is a very small sit down restaurant found right in the Stater Brothers shopping center on the corner of Lakeview and Yorba Linda Blvd. With the option of Japanese, Chinese, Poke, as well as a Mc Donalds and Panda Express, this…

Battle Of The Bays Round 2- Event 1 Mission Bay Pre-Fishing
The Battle Of The Bays Round 2- Event 1, Mission Bay event takes place this Saturday. This is a bay bass event targeting barred sand, spotted sand, and calico bass. The event is put on by Coastal Conservation Association of California and well attended and supported by the fishing community. Last years event was a blast with over 50 anglers joining the tournament. Everyone fished from either a Kayak, Float Tube, or Stand Up Paddle Board. Conditions were tough last year as the wind really started to blow pretty early in the day. I was lucky enough to nab a nice Spotted Bay Bass that came in at 15.25 inches…

Tomatoes- How To Get One Out of Every Flower
People often ask me how I get so many tomatoes every year out of my tomato plants. Good soil, proper sunlight and the right amount of water are the usual answers, but I have a tip that I like to share with anyone who will listen. Electric toothbrush. Yes you heard me, electric toothbrush. Tomatoes, eggplants and peppers are all self pollinating plants. That means they do not need a separate plant to pollinate. It works like this. When pollen from a plant’s stamen is transferred to that same plant’s stigma, it is called self-pollination. When pollen from a plant’s stamen is transferred to a different plant’s stigma, it is…

Chasing a Dream
If you are a die hard fisherman like I am, you probably have a bucket list fish that you have dreamed of catching. For me it was a big striped bass. This past week I had the opportunity to chase after that dream fish out in Tennessee with the guys from Tennessee River Monsters. The monster striped bass has been an elusive fish for me for some time. Living in Southern California we hear of the occasional monster, but they are few and far between. With lakes like Silverwood, Pyramid, Perris, Castaic and Diamond Valley in our backyard, we have ample opportunity. You’ll hear of fish over 20 pounds over…

Front Sight Firearms Training Institute- Tactical Shotgun Course
This past weekend I had the opportunity to get out and partake in the Tactical Shotgun Course at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute in Pahrump Nevada. This is a course that takes you through the ins and out of owning a shotgun and having it available and ready to use in the extreme case that you need to defend yourself and your loved ones. I have been a gun owner for as long as I can remember. And with that, a trained gun owner who takes ownership very seriously. I have always felt that if you want to be a gun owner, you need to be a responsible gun…

Squish Jigs by Savage Gear Dominate the Bluefin Tuna Scene
Squish Jigs by Savage Gear have been dominating the local tuna scene. The Bluefin Tuna fishing off of the coast of Southern California has been incredible for the past few years. Heck, I’d say seasons, but it seems as if the fish have never left. The fish seem to be circulating around our local banks and islands. I’ve heard fisherman say that these are the years that we will look back on ten to twenty years from now and say, “those were the days.” And I don’t disagree. The bait that has really been getting these fish going is the Savage Gear Squish Jig. Half Squid, Half Fish, these little…
