It’s Time To Get Slammed! The New Slam-A-Mander by FishLab

Slam-A-What?

Slam-A-Mander…that’s what! The new FishLab Slam-A-Mander is a soft bodied swimbait that is designed to perfectly mimic the looks and movement of a real salamander.

Why a Salamander Bait?

Live Salamanders, or Water Dogs, have been used for decades by hardcore, trophy Largemouth Bass fisherman. The subtle movements that salamanders make drive bass crazy. In many watersheds around the country, salamanders are a big part of the bass diet.

This year, FishLab set out to create the perfect Salamander imitation with the new Slam-A-Mander baits when they introduced them at the 2021 ICAST show in Florida.

The problem with a live salamander is that in a lot of places around the country it is now illegal to catch and use a salamander as live bait. No problem there! This bait solves that problem.

Features of the Slam-A-Mander

From top to bottom, these new baits are absolutely feature packed. With exaggerated, but accurate features, these baits really do mimic a live salamander bait.

Lets start at the bottom and work our way up.

The tail of these baits is built with an oversized paddle tail design that gives an extreme tail kick, and oddly, a cool “S” style swimming action.

Moving up the body, you come across some great features like the details in the hands and legs. These create a great secondary movement that also draw in wary fish for big strikes.

Just up from the arms is the silicone skirt that replicates Gill flare. This skirt flares up nicely on the pause and looks awesome underwater.

How to Fish the Slam-A-Mander Swimbaits

There are an infinite amount of ways to fish the Slam-A-Mander baits. They are a soft bodied swimbait, so you can fish these however you’d like. Some of my favorites include the Texas Rig, Carolina Rig and Tokyo Rig. But of course, you can rig it right to a weighted jig head or even go weightless in the weeds.

A Variety of Options

FishLab really knocked it out of the part on this one. With so many ways to rig and fish these baits, they actually fill out the sizing and color options nicely. They come in a 4 1/2″, 6″ and 7″ lengths as well as about 8 different colors including Watermelon, Green Pumpkin, Green Pumpkin/Brown Bottom, Purple/Brown Bottom, Brown/Black Bottom, Black/Blue, Watermelon Candy, and Albino. That covers just about any color pattern you might need for gin clear to dirty waters.
