Okuma Voyager Express Travel Kit – First Look

    November 21, 2018 /

Okuma Voyager Express Travel Kit – First Look As a person who travels for a living, I am always looking for the next great travel rod or kit.  This year, Okuma introduced the new Voyager Express Travel Kit to add to their extensive lineup of travel rods and kits.  This particular kit is a 5 piece travel kit that comes with rod and reel packed in a soft travel carry bag. Okuma has a wide range of travel gear and have filled that niche nicely.  From the high end saltwater Nomad rods to the SST multi piece Salmon and Steelhead rods, Okuma has the traveler covered.  Heck, they even make…

Smoking The Perfect Tri Tip – Easy Recipe

    November 9, 2018 /

Smoking The Perfect Tri Tip There is nothing like biting into a perfectly cooked, juicy, smoked slice of Tri Tip.  I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.  The thought of the flavors as they run through my head get me excited.  And now with the ease and affordability of electric smokers, this can be accomplished by anyone. Ingredients Tri Tip – I like a 2-3lb piece of meat with some fat cap on one side Rub – Enough for a good rubdown and complete cover of the Tri Tip Kosher Salt – A few Tablespoons should do.  Also enough to cover the Tri Tip Smoker – This recipe calls for…

What Inspires You Video Contest by Okuma

    November 2, 2018 /

What Inspires You Video Contest Okuma ran a really cool video contest this year and we asked the question, What Inspires You?  With that, we had a lot of entries.  We asked for a 3 minute or less videos telling us what inspires you about fishing.  The winner of the contest was set to receive an all expense paid trip to SoCal to fish with Team Okuma for one day and another day fishing with the TV show Stoked On Fishing.  Second place was a $1,000 Okuma gift card and third was a $500 Okuma gift card.  Not bad at all! The Videos As I mentioned, we had a lot…

What To Do With This Collar? – Quick Recipe

    October 26, 2018 /

What To Do With This Collar? Over the past several seasons, the sport boats have been including the collar of your fish when they clean your catch.  Most folks that I know simply discard this delectable part of the fish as they just don’t know what to do with it. The collar contains some of the most delicious, tender portions of meat that you will find on the fish.  It definitely isn’t the most pretty or appealing part, but with some quick fixing, it is some of the best.  For the full story on where these particular yellowfin came from, check out the full report here. Preparing The Collar For…

    Limit Style Yellowfin Tuna Fishing

    October 21, 2018 /

Annual Okuma Fall Charter Aboard Tribute Sportfishing With the reports of limit style yellowfin tuna fishing coming in recently, we had our charter timed just right.  The annual Okuma Fall Charter aboard Tribute Sportfishing out of Seaforth Landing has been a tradition over the past couple of years. The Plan Everyone had high hopes of limit style yellowfin tuna fishing as we headed down to Seaforth Landing in San Diego.  The fish had been reasonably close to home and it had been pretty wide open.  The fish we were chasing were not big like the recent bluefin that we have been catching, but more fun sized in the 10-30lb class.…

Davey’s Delicious Homemade Soft Pretzel Recipe

    October 18, 2018 /

Davey’s Homemade Soft Pretzels It’s time to take your next Oktoberfest party to the next level with my Delicious Homemade Soft Pretzel recipe. Heck, these soft pretzels are so good, you can make and eat them any time of the year. My quest for the best soft pretzel began in Germany a couple of years back.  Karie and I were traveling through Bavaria and had many, many a pretzel.  They all seemed to be a little bit different though and it was very difficult to narrow down the best.  Once we returned home our quest continued and I tried several recipes of my own finally coming to the recipe I…

Tesoro 5S Star Drag Reel by Okuma – Unboxing Video

    October 7, 2018 /

Tesoro 5S Star Drag Reel The Tesoro family of reels have been a force on the saltwater scene for a couple of seasons now.  This year, Okuma added to the family with the introduction of the new Tesoro 5S.  This is the most compact star drag reel in the family.   A Look Inside Coming in at only about a pound, the 5S is a compact star drag that is absolutely built for the fight.  The 6061-T6 machined aluminum frame, side plate and spool keep this reel rigid and strong.  Internally, the Tesoro 5S has all stainless steel components to fight against any corrosion issues.  The stainless steel helical cut…

    September 30, 2018 /

Okuma Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rod I finally had the opportunity to get my hands on one of the new Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rods.  These rods are pretty darn cool.  They are all 4pc rods that are built like a full 1pc rod and packed into a convenient travel case. Okuma has a wide variety of travel rods in their lineup.  SST, Citrix, Voyager, Nomad and Nomad Xpress.  These cover everything from long casting surf, big fish boat rods as well as compact, light action trout rods and combos to fly rods.  The rod I am looking at today is the Nomad Xpress Swimbait Travel Rod. Walleye Jigging on the Columbia River

    September 23, 2018 /

Fish Camp 2018 This year I had the opportunity to attend Fish Camp up on the Columbia River.  Fish Camp is a media event where several media types are invited from around the country.  The event takes place at Peach Beach Camp Park in Goldendale Washington along the famed Columbia River.  The goal every year is to get up and spend some time with a variety of media folks and talk about and demo new products while fishing for salmon, sturgeon, bass and walleye. And its called Fish Camp for a reason.  We do just that, camp.  Tent and sleeping bag provided. Over the past several seasons, hover fishing for…
