What To Do With This Collar? – Quick Recipe
What To Do With This Collar? Over the past several seasons, the sport boats have been including the collar of your fish when they clean your catch. Most folks that I know simply discard this delectable part of the fish as they just don’t know what to do with it. The collar contains some of the most delicious, tender portions of meat that you will find on the fish. It definitely isn’t the most pretty or appealing part, but with some quick fixing, it is some of the best. For the full story on where these particular yellowfin came from, check out the full report here. Preparing The Collar For…

Walleye Jigging on the Columbia River
Fish Camp 2018 This year I had the opportunity to attend Fish Camp up on the Columbia River. Fish Camp is a media event where several media types are invited from around the country. The event takes place at Peach Beach Camp Park in Goldendale Washington along the famed Columbia River. The goal every year is to get up and spend some time with a variety of media folks and talk about and demo new products while fishing for salmon, sturgeon, bass and walleye. And its called Fish Camp for a reason. We do just that, camp. Tent and sleeping bag provided. Over the past several seasons, hover fishing for…

Komodo SS by Okuma – An In Depth Look
Okuma Komodo SS I get a lot of questions about the Komodo SS by Okuma. For those that don’t know, these are their low profile family of reels built specifically for saltwater use. These reels are tough! The SS stands for Stainless Steel. With Stainless Steel gearing, pinion gear, drive and spool shafts as well as aluminum side plates and frame this reel was designed from the ground up for extreme saltwater use. These reels were built for the fight getting up to 30lbs of pure fish stopping power. The 350 size was the first to hit the market a couple of seasons ago putting out over 25 pounds of…

Cedros Kayak Fishing- A Journey Worth Taking
Cedros Kayak Fishing Last year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to fish a few of the Coastal Conservation Association of California kayak tournaments around Southern California. I’ve been a kayak fisherman since the mid 90’s, but have been out of the tournament circuit for a few years. When these popped up, I was all in. The top raffle prize happened to be an all expense paid trip with Cedros Kayak Fishing, and you know what…I won! Kayak fishing at Cedros Island has been a dream of mine for a long, long time. And to hear that I won, I was ecstatic! I’ve known the owner of Cedros…

Long Range Fishing Close To Home- Giant Bluefin Tuna
With all of the giant bluefin tuna in the reports around Southern California, its hard not to dream about pulling on big fish. As of this writing, you have a legitimate chance at catching a big bluefin tuna on every trip. And when I say big, I’m talking 150 to over 300 pounds. This week I had the opportunity to get out and fish the annual Okuma 3 Day Charter aboard Excel Sportfishing. Day of Departure – Day 1 As the annual Okuma 3 Day Charter got closer, anticipation builds as we all read the fishing reports. Yellowtail, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna and of course, Giant Bluefin Tuna all filled the…

Cedros Island- Disaster Averted
Disaster Averted! After an incredible trip down to Cedros Island off of the Pacific Coast of Mexico, I was looking back at the footage I captured with my GoPro Hero 5 and found a pretty funny clip. Disaster was certainly averted this time. The Trip I was down at Cedros Island fishing with Cedros Kayak Fishing and Jeff Mariani and the fishing was pretty incredible for Calico Bass. The yellowtail bite was a little slow, but the bass were non stop and we put the Hobie Mirage Kayaks to work this week. The Fishing After a day of throwing big baits for yellowtail and swimbaits for calico bass, Jeff and…

Barramundi Fishing with Osceola Outback Adventures Florida
Barramundi Fishing with Osceola Outback Adventures I recently had a pretty incredible opportunity to check another fish species off of the bucket list. After this years ICAST show in Orlando, we had the chance to get out and fish with Osceola Outback Adventures for Australian Barramundi. We didn’t even have to travel all the way to Australia to do it. In fact, we hopped in our rental and drove about 45 minutes to St. Cloud Florida which is just outside of Orlando. This is the only place in the northern and western hemispheres that you can actually fish for Barramundi. For those of you that may not know, Barramundi are…

Jigging for Monster Cutthroat Trout on Pyramid Lake
I recently had the opportunity to get up to Pyramid Lake in Nevada to chase giant Cutthroat Trout. I got the call from Denis Isbister of the television show Wild Fish Wild Places that the fishing is good and we need to get up there right now. Giant cutthroat trout? You don’t really have to tell me twice. We booked our flights and were on the way! Pyramid Lake is just east of Reno and an easy 45 minute drive right to the lake. We landed in Reno, grabbed our rental car, made the quick drive and were on the water by 2pm. As you drive east and finally make…
